D&B Supply - Western home & Family Store

Meet Debbie Cook

I’m lucky in that I can make my living doing what I love. I am one of the Foresters for the city of Boise which means I get to spend my days working with trees. Before going to work for Boise I spent 10 years working as the SW Idaho Community Forestry Assistant for the state. I spent 12 years at the Ada County Extension office as the horticulture assistant answering gardening questions and assisting with the Master Gardener program. I’ve been hosting a radio talk show on gardening the past 11 years, 6 of them hosting the D&B Garden Show on KIDO Radio, Saturday mornings from 10:00-11:00. Call in and talk gardening with me sometime. My spare time finds me in my own garden, enjoying the Idaho outdoors, traveling or reading a good book.

I am an Idaho Native. I’ve lived lots of other places, from Turkey to Alaska, but haven’t found a place I love more than Idaho.

I have two children. A daughter who lives and gardens in Ireland and a son who doesn’t garden, but appreciates those who do…he’s young and I’m still holding out hope.

I became a Master Gardener in 1991 and a Certified Arborist in 1998. I am a founding member of the Lunaria League and serve on that board as Secretary. And most importantly, I am a Dirt Diva in good standing!
